L.A. BEER BLAST A6

German Beer

Pinkus dates to 1816 and claims to be the "world's first organic brewery." Their hefeweizen remains textbook.

The L.A. BEER BLAST is a weekly newsletter designed to let Food GPS readers know about what’s new at select L.A. bars and restaurants with great beer selections. Expect a new L.A. BEER BLAST every Thursday evening, in time for the weekend rush. Bars and restaurants are only listed if their selection has changed in the past week. NEW ON TAP

Brewery Ommegang Three Philiosophers – Cooperstown, NY ($6/12 oz.)
Tasting notes from Pure Luck owner Ben Ling: Ommegang starts with a Belgian-style brown ale and blends in sour/sweet cherry lambic to make Three Philosophers – a chocolatey, malty treat with a medium body and hints of tart cherries.

Russian River Brewing Russian River IPA – Santa Rosa, CA ($6/pint)
Ling: “A double helping of hops provide big floral and grapefruit flavors. Clear golden in color, with a light body and a refreshing clean finish.”

Coronado Brewing Co. Piccadilly Porter – Coronado, CA ($5/pint)
Ling: “This easy-drinking porter has big notes of chocolate and toasted malt, a light creamy sweetness, and clean finish.”

Craftsman Brewing Company Honesty Ale – Pasadena, CA ($6/10 oz.)
Ling: “Honesty is brewed every year for release on Presidents’ Day. A sour ale brewed with cherries, in the Belgian Lambic tradition, with a crisp tartness and aroma of fresh fruit.”

    NEW BOTTLES

Brewery Ommegang Biere De Mars (Oct ’08) – Cooperstown, NY ($20/750ml)
Ling: Ommegang’s new batch of their elusive Biere de Mars is a masterpiece. Brewed with wild Belgian yeast and dry-hopped, it has an aroma of rose petals and clove, with a subtle flavor that is light on the palate. Slightly tart, with notes of apple cider and hit of hops in the finish.
