DAILY PINT
2310 Pico Boulevard, Santa Monica, 310 450 7631
According to David Stickel:
“To celebrate Tuesday’s release of the 2009 Stone Imperial Russian Stout, we have just tapped a firkin aged with American Oak. Come by the Pint and try a pint of this amazing stout, consistently ranked as one of the best imperial stouts on the market. Try it alongside another Daily Pint favorite, Port Brewing’s Old Viscosity, also available on tap right now (but not on cask). Also tapped is another Stone favorite, a cask of Smoked Porter with Vanilla Bean. And for you hopheads who missed it this weekend, we still have a little of the Bear Republic Apex left, along with some Blind Pig.”
“On deck we’ve got a keg of Gordon from Oskar Blues in Colorado. Gordon is a Double IPA / Imperial Red hybrid, dry hopped with Amarillo, coming in at 8.7% abv and 85 IBUs. It won the Gold Medal at the 2008 World Beer Championships.”
THE GOLDEN STATE
426 North Fairfax Avenue, Downtown, 323 782 8331
Here’s yesterday’s report from The Golden State co-owner Jason Bernstein:
“We just got the Lost Abbey Devotion on draft. That’s a nice light beer. Sort of a bit of lemongrass and tangerine in there. It pairs up nicely with a lot of our food. Although it might technically be a pale ale (though I’m not totally sure) it’s flavor profile is closer to a lot of the Saisons that I’ve had – which is one of my favorite styles of beer.”
“Another one we just got is Alesmith’s Horny Devil. I haven’t put it on yet but I’d expect it to be on in a few days or so. It’s a strong strong beer. That’s a good meal ender. ”
JOHNNY’S BAR
5006 York Boulevard, Highland Park, 323 551 6959
NEW ON TAP
According to co-owner Zac Crandell, “Arrogant Bastard Ale is an American strong ale. It is marketed by warning potential consumers that they are “not worthy” of such a sophisticated beer, suggesting most people cannot appreciate a beer of such quality and depth. It is a popular beer among craft beer aficionados.”

THE YORK
5018 York Boulevard, Highland Park, 323 255 9675
NEW ON TAP
Today, The York owner Ryan Ballinger delivered a status report:
“The Honesty Ale finally ran out, so we put Coronado Brewing Company’s Chocolate Porter on draft. It is a hearty porter with more notes of caramelized malts than outright chocolate, I think.”
“The cask-conditioned ale from Craftsman is coming in today, no word yet if it is the India pale ale, which has been the case the last few weeks, or a return to the Poppyfield pale ale. I enjoy the surprise when I pull the handle on the beer engine to check it out when I show up!”
“Allagash White is played out. Its days at The York are numbered. Calling all white ales, it is time to taste!”
