Restaurant Silver Lake

Jason Michaud takes seasonality seriously for breakfast and lunch at Local.

Jason Michaud opened Local on September 2 in the former Silver Lake home of his Eastside Mercantile antique shop. Local is limited to breakfast and lunch until September 16, at which point Michaud will offer all three meals. No matter the meal, Michaud is committed to being “organic and local whenever possible.”

Michaud’s L.A. resume is highlighted by a long run at Steven Arroyo’s Cobras & Matadors as executive chef/kitchen manager. Since then, he’s consulted downtown at The Redwood Bar & Grill and at Three Drunken Goats in Montrose.

When it comes to décor, all of Local’s furniture is antique. There’s a gated outdoor patio. Inside, diners will find an exhibition kitchen and a mounted neon wall clock that reads “Local.”

For breakfast, Michaud is preparing dishes like whole wheat apple pecan pancakes cooked in a cast-iron skillet; chilaquiles with queso fresco, black beans, salsa, avocado and crème fraiche; braised pork belly with eggs and home fries; and crepes stuffed with a choice of three toppings and one cheese. Think smoked bacon, caramelized onions and spinach with cheddar.

At lunch, the menu features a slow-roasted Heritage pork sloppy Joe with onion confit and queso fresco; a goat cheese-stuffed Portobello croquette burger; a 3-cheese grilled brioche sandwich with onion confit and oven-dried tomatoes; and the Albondigas Burger made with Heritage pork, shallots, garlic and fresh herbs with cheese.

To drink, options include Alessandro drip coffee, banana orange smoothies, a mixed vegetable juice of the day, lemonade and a selection of tea and espresso drinks.
