I first checked in with Eagle Rock Brewery in April, before Jeremy Raub and father Steve started construction in Glassell Park and Jeremy explained their background and vision. Now the Family Raub is finally on the verge of fermentation. If all goes well with the Health Department, they can be brewing as early as November 10, with beer released to the public just 2-3 weeks later.

Building and Safety recently signed off on the brewery, and the Health Department will be back on Monday to make sure the Raubs addressed their recent notes. The City of Los Angeles is treating the tasting room like a separate entity, even though it’s under the same roof, so as soon as the Raubs start brewing, they’ll work to secure a separate ABC license and Health Department permit.

The Raubs plan to start with beers that emphasize three different core ingredients. Their Witbier focuses on wheat, Black Mild emphasizes malt and XPA is a hop accented IPA. They’ll have the ability to ferment 1000 gallons of beer at any given time, with a brewing cycle generally taking 2-3 weeks. So far, likely accounts include Verdugo Bar, Surly Goat, BoHo and The Oinkster, plus Johnny’s and The York in Highland Park. The first batch will appear in kegs, though Eagle Rock Brewery already has bottling equipment that they’re ready to use. Some of the first bottles are headed for Red Carpet Wines in Glendale.

Once the Raubs are able to launch the tasting room, it will likely be open Thursday to Sunday. There’s room for 28 people, who can sit on stools or at the 4 or 5 tables. Belly up to the granite bar to find the Raubs pouring from 8 taps. They plan to pour three house-made beers and host five guest taps.
