Numbered establishments on the map correspond to information below for easy reference. Establishments also appear in alphabetical order instead of in order of preference, and yes, cookies are subject to availability.
1. Akasha – Chocolate Macaroon: Akasha Richmond juggles savory with sweet at her Culver City restaurant, bakery and café. The Chocolate Macaroon ($1.60) is a willing companion to Intelligentsia coffee, featuring a chocolate dipped base, a crisp dome and supple shredded coconut core.
2. Bouchon Bakery – Nutter Butter [CLOSED]
The sweet center to Thomas Keller’s sprawling, multi-pronged Beverly Hills edifice features treats like the Nutter Butter, a stupendous take on a popular mass market cookie with a creamy 1:1 ratio of Italian buttercream to peanut butter inside two sumptuous peanut butter cookies.
3. Caffe Luxxe – Alfajores: Coffee pros Gary Chau and Mark Wain source Argentinean Alfajores ($2.50) from a mysterious local baker, delivering two shortbread discs dusted with powdered sugar and filled with thick dulce de leche.
4. Cake Monkey – Nuff Said Cookie: Lisa J. Olin and chef-partner Elizabeth Belkind deliver elevated takes on childhood classics. Their Nuff Said ($3.25) cookie is a chewy, addictive play on Rocky Road with dark chocolate, sea salt, marshmallow and crushed pecans.

I think you forgot the chocolate chunk cookie at Thyme in Santa Monica. The perfect balance of sweet and salty, chewy innards with crunchy edges. I’ve searched high and low for the perfect chocolate chip cookie and this is heaven. And they sell the frozen dough to take home and bake yourself. I always have some in my freezer.

Erin,
I did try a cookie at Thyme during my research. It was pretty good, but my goal was to spotlight great cookies in different categories, and Four Cafe already had chocolate on lock.

If the one at Four Cafe is better than the one at Thyme, then I need to try it!

Erin, try the chocolate chip cookie at Four Cafe and let me know what you think. Somebody also suggested Vosges in the comments section on my Facebook Page.
