Trick Dog Alligator Alley

Cocktail San Francisco

Alligator Alley evokes images of the desolate highway that cuts across Florida’s gator-filled Everglades. The name also brings to mind my parents’ old house in South Carolina, which came with an unexpected “amenity,” an alligator nest that rendered the backyard unusable. Thankfully, at Trick Dog, the new bar in San Francisco’s Mission district from bartenders Scott Baird & Josh Harris, the name’s far less menacing. Card 441 on their clever cocktail color wheel corresponded to a gator-green Alligator Alley ($12) that combines olive oil-infused Broker’s gin, bittersweet Imbue vermouth, Tempus Fugit quinquina, and green Chartreuse, served up with an olive sinker. The smooth sipping, full-bodied aperitif-style cocktail was easy to enjoy amidst the glow of sconces with decorative gears and flickering filaments.
