Antojitos Chilangos Gordita [CLOSED]

Mexican Food Los Angeles

Highland Park is a hotbed for regional Mexican food, and Antojitos Chilangos specializes in snacks from Mexico City. The family-run cafe showcases Aztec imagery, including cactus-crowned pyramids and an Aztec warrior carrying a woman. Look up and you’ll find a photo menu touting items like the gordita ($3.25), a crispy, deep-fried pocket of masa filled with molten gobs of queso fresco, chunks of meaty chicharron that crisp up in the scalding oil, and if you’re so inclined, cooling crema.

Salsa Los Angeles
Owner Fernando Martinez will undoubtedly offer a salsa caddy, and by all means accept. Spoon on tomato-based orange salsa blended with sweet California chilies. If you’re feeling daring, switch to the seed studded jalapeno-tomatillo salsa, which packs more heat, but still won’t wreck your palate.

Dose of Vitamin P spotlights my favorite pork dish from the previous week.
