The Classic Coffee Pumpkin Piccolo [CLOSED]

Coffee Los Angeles

In a five-way Fashion District fork in the road that would rival what Kermit encountered in “The Muppet Movie,” you’ll find The Classic Coffee, the neighborhood’s trendiest coffeehouse. The glass-fronted business includes an elaborate wall of planted succulents, colorful wallpaper and pillows, and a pretty serious coffee program. Classic serves Intelligentsia coffee, most of which passes through Mazzer grinders and a sleek La Marzocco Strada espresso machine. Baristas also craft signature beverages, which the proprietors call “authentic creations.” For fall, Michelle Harrison created the Pumpkin Piccolo.

This Pumpkin Piccolo ($4), which tastes like fall in a Gibraltar glass, combines house-made pumpkin puree, brown and white sugars, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and ginger, which are strained before joining a double shot of Black Cat espresso with Straus whole milk. Harrison developed the pumpkin pie-like drink after growing tired of artificial flavors of pumpkin chain drinks. Thankfully, this “baby pumpkin” is a balanced beverage befitting the season.
