The Cheese Store of Silverlake Panini [CLOSED]

Sandwich Los Angeles

The Cheese Store of Silverlake's meats and cheeses form great sandwich building blocks.

Most of my weeks since 2007 have involved visits to Silver Lake’s Sunset Junction, the neighborhood hub for coffee, barware, the The Silverlake Conservatory of Music and one place that I more or less took for granted, The Cheese Store of Silverlake.

At the Intelligentsia back bar, I’d see baristas eating panini sandwiches pretty regularly, and didn’t pay close enough attention, since it took five years to finally order one from Chris Pollan’s adjacent shop, which as most Eastsiders know, has a great cheese selection. His play on the New Orleans-born muffuletta ($8) is a fun one, featuring crisp bread cradling firm layers of salame rosa, the versatile Dutch cow’s milk cheese, Gouda, and tangy muffuletta mix, a rough chop of marinated olives, peppers and more.

Dose of Vitamin P spotlights my favorite pork dish from the previous week.
