Longtime Malibu resident Charlie DiLorenzo recently transformed the Allegria space into an upscale neighborhood restaurant called Charlie’s.
She graduated from The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) with a degree in architecture and design and worked with Sarah Chavez and Marina Mizrah of Chimera Interiors to implement her vision. The space is clean and contemporary, with neutral colors, natural wood and flourishes like a hand-blown glass chandelier and leopard print chairs from Dolce and Gabbana and Phillip Stark.
Chef Eleano Camboni, previously with Guido’s in Malibu, features starters like Rosemary Skewered Shrimp ($12) with fresh avocado pico de gallo, individual Mushroom Pizza ($15) and Fresh Apulia Burrata ($13) with vine-ripened tomatoes and drizzled basil vinaigrette.
Charlie’s showcases five different steaks, including a bone-in Dry Aged Reserve Wagyu Ribeye ($42), Greg Norman Premium T-Bone ($42) and Prime Chateaubriand benedict ($38) with poached egg, spinach and Béarnaise. Feel free to incorporate nine different sauces ($4 each). Think Roasted Garlic Demi-glace, Shallot Chocolate Burgundy or Port Wine, Walnuts & Stilton Cheese.
Expect Entrées like a Colorado Lamb Chop ($35) with rosemary and white truffle scented roasted garlic, Berkshire Kurobuta Pork Tenderloin ($28) with roasted sweet bell pepper and cipollini and Canard Confit ($26), a twice roasted half-duck in a bourbon peppercorn sauce.
Tom Laret, who worked at Bastide for two years as head waiter and enjoyed a stint as Allegria’s manager, has a dual role as General Manager and Wine Director. He’s utilizing an Enomatic system to deliver 10 high-end wines by the glass. Overall, Charlie’s is featuring over 150 labels, including 25 wines by the glass.
Beer sommelier Christina Perozzi (“The Beer Chick”) has assembled a beer selection that involves four rotating beers on draught, now including Deschutes Black Butte Porter, Telegraph White Ale, Hollywood Blonde and Franziskhaner Hefeweizen. Perozzi has even commissioned El Monte’s Skyscraper brewery to concoct a “Charlie’s Lager,” which will be available in about two weeks. You’ll also find a seasonal selection of small and large bottles.

Bad Food. Bad Service.Dirty smelly bathrooms,Overpriced.Worst dining experience we’ve ever had. This place totally sucks…….. Staff was rude from host to waitress, only good person was busboy! Food has fallen off from a previous visit, when initially they open, now everything didn’t seem fresh, bread underdone inside, baker turn your oven down, gross gooey! Everything about this place is a joke with all the nice restaurants in Malibu

My family and I meet once a month for dinner and I got to choose this month’s place, boy did I hit a home run! We had such a fantastic experience from the first welcome to sitting in the cozy bar to our wonderful dinner. We all loved our entrees and the service was perfect. Thank you Charlie for opening such a lovely restaurant that is wonderful in so many ways. Robin Best July 13, 2009

Charlie is an amazing host, however the food quality isn’t up to par.The chef is little to be desired for with his huge ego and lack of talent. Our server was quite pleasant, but didn’t know the menu.I would go back for drinks only! Thanks Charlie…..piece of advice,LOSE THE CHEF!!

Best steaks anywhere in the city ( T-bone is my absolute favorite), finally a good steak in town. Really eclectic and comprehensive wine list (with very LOW markups!) heavy on Cabernet, but the GM will turn you on to some hidden gems if you ask for wine assistance! Very nice service, I am anxious to see how this restaurant develops. PS The weekends are CRAZY! Try to sneak in early or midweek. Happy Dining!

It’s happened before. Granita was a good Wolfgang Puck restaurant in the mid ’90s.
