Your Beer of the Week is Unity 2012 from Eagle Rock Brewery. Take an old German beer style (Berliner Weisse), add in rye (for some spice) and then throw in the official ingredient of this year’s L.A. Beer Week (the prickly pear) and you will have a unique beer to toast the celebration of craft beer in Los Angeles. Look for the distinctive red, silver and gold label for a blast of prickly pear that doesn’t stray far from the classic Berliner Weisse flavor profile.

There are two choices for your Homework this week. You can challenge yourself to one or the other of both. One is “Caps for Caps.” Visit participating bottle shops in the L.A. area and collect 12 caps from either a local brewery such as Eagle Rock or Hangar 24 or find specially stickered caps (since some of our fine breweries don’t bottle currently). Take those 12 caps with you to the Union Station festival or to Eagle Rock Brewery or Beer Belly later to get a fancy L.A. Beer Week chapeau. Or you can get your L.A. Beer Week Bucket List and attend 4 events from the specified list and take to Union Station to earn yourself a $1 bottle of Unity 2012! Check out details on both events on the L.A. Beer Week blog.

FYI – Carmageddon II coincides with the last two days of L.A. Beer Week so plan accordingly if you are heading to events and that stretch of the 405 is in your path.
